covid-19 safety protocols


​Attention All Crew:
Participation in the 2021 summer training program to be contingent on crew members' approach to Covid-19 safety and preparedness. Masks
 (multi-layer fabric or surgical masks) are required by crew at all times. No neck gaiters or handkerchiefs-as-masks permitted.

Offshore Passages:
Pending availability of vaccinations, all crew must test Covid-negative no more that 48 hours before departure.

before class

Before each class, all crew members should:
  1. Review the lesson materials for the day's lesson; before coming aboard you should understand the procedures to be taken, skills to be tested, and general tasks to be completed.
  2. Review the rules of the road.
  3. Check the marine weather forecast for San Diego Harbor. 
  4. Check the min and max tide points, note the time and speed of the max flow or ebb.
  5. Check the phase of the moon and if the tide is a Neap or Spring Tide.

When and where do I go?

​Please arrive at 0950 hours to Celtic Song's Slip #115, Gate #1, Harbor Island Marina. Class is from 1000hrs - 1600hrs, with a break for lunch.  Your coordinates are Tom Ham's Lighthouse. Free day parking is available outside the marina. Upon arrival, text (858) 888-0997 so someone can let you in.

What do I bring?


​For Daysail Lessons
In addition to the items below, please also remember to pack your own lunch for daysails.
  • Boat shoes (non-marking, no-slip and clean sole)
  • Hat, sunglasses
  • A quality rigging knife
  • Sailing gloves
  • Sailing (foul weather) gear, if appropriate
  • Sunscreen is available aboard; do not bring spray sunscreen

For Overnight Trips
...all of the above, plus:
  • Inflatable PFD
  • Flashlight with red lens ( to use after dark without compromising night vision)
  • Sleeping bag
  • Pillow 
  • Lightweight towel
  • Wet suit
  • Swim goggles
  • Swimsuit
