HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED TO JOIN?
Applicants  should have  logged a minimum of 25 sailing days, and have a basic understanding of sailing principles. Learn more about requirements here.
​WHEN AND WHERE ARE CLASSES HELD?
Celtic Song is located in Harbor Island West Marina, Dock #1, Slip #115 (next to Tom Ham's Lighthouse Restaurant) The class begins at 1000hrs and ends at 1600hrs.  The schedule is found under the schedule tab, with most classes taking place Wednesdays and Saturdays. Please arrive no later than 0950 hours.

HOW MUCH DO CLASSES and Passages COST?
There is no charge for classes or passages. If you wish to show your appreciation, you can donate to our favorite charity using this secure link: www.peopleforguatemala.org.
What should I bring?
Day sail
  • Boat shoes (non-marking, no-slip and clean sole)
  • Hat, sunglasses
  • Red flash light
  • A quality rigging knife
  • Sailing gloves
  • Lunch
  • Sailing (foul weather) gear

Overnight Trip
same as above, plus
  • Flashlight/headlamp with red lens
  • Sleeping bag
  • Pillow case
  • Lightweight towel
  • Minimal personal items

How long do offshore voyages typically last?
​Coastal expeditions will take 2 to 10 days starting in San Diego and ending either in Catalina or San Diego.

How often will crew change during trips?
Legs of the trips will be arranged to accommodate crews and boat schedules.  Weather and safety is always first consideration.  Crew must arrive two days prior to international passages and plan an additional 4 days at the end of the passage. We will not guarantee end date of any passage.
What will be the duration of each leg?
Will vary from 2 days to one month depending on the trip's destination. Most trips are 1 - 2 weeks.
What will crew members need to bring with them?
Crew should have the following equipment and no more:
  • Boat shoes (non-marking, no-slip and clean sole)

  • A quality rigging knife
  • Sailing gloves
  • Sailing (foul weather) gear

​Are the expeditions going to be extensions of one long trip, or a series of smaller voyages?
In June 2022, the boat will depart for the South Pacific for a one-month crossing. There will be shorter legs as the cruise proceeds south through the islands of the South Pacific.
​What is the minimum and maximum crew size for each leg?
Minimum crew is 2; maximum is 4. The ocean crossing will require a crew of 3. ​
What are the costs associated with Participating in an offshore leg?
Each person is responsible for transportation to and from the start and finish of each leg plus all personal expenses and none of the boat expenses.
